Poprad

Is a city in northern Slovakia at the foot of the High Tatra Mountains famous for its picturesque historic centre and as a holiday resort. It is the biggest town of the Spiš region and the tenth largest city in Slovakia, with a population of approximately 55,000.
Poprad is situated on the Poprad River in the Sub-Tatra Basin, and is a gateway to the High Tatras. Mountain ranges around the city include the Levoča Hills in the east, Kozie chrbty in the south, and the Low Tatras in the southwest. The drainage divide between the Black Sea and Baltic Sea lies a bit to the west, near the village of Štrba.
The historical centre is concentrated around the St. Egidius square (Námestie svätého Egídia), which is rimmed with houses predominantly from the 18th and 19th centuries. Churches in the city include the early-Gothic Catholic Church of St. Egidius from the late 13th century. Another historical centre near Poprad is in Spišská Sobota, which was declared in 1953 to be a Town Monument Reserve. A significant landmark there is the Church of St. George, with five late-Gothic side altars and a main altar from the workshop of Master Paul of Levoča. Modern places of interest include a new water park called AquaCity Poprad.

Vysoké Tatry

The lowest among the world´s highest mountain ranges and the highest mountain in Slovakia. It is our first national park and together with the polish part of the Tatras it was, as part of UNESCO, declared the Biosphere Reserve Tatry. Štrbské pleso they used to break ice and, because of its unique purity, import it to Budapest and Vienna. Rocky peaks – the highest peak of the Tatras as well as Slovakia is Gerlachovský štít with an altitude of 2655m above sea level, deep glacial valleys, moraines, lakes – Skalnaté pleso, Veľké Hincovo pleso, Popradské pleso, waterfalls – vodopády studeného potoka, with touris resorts and surroundig historical sights, are irresistable attractions all year long. Kriváň Peak is a symbol of Slovakia. Its angled top makes frequent appeatance in all publications about Slovakia. Kriváň is 2494 metres and located in the western part of the Hight Tatras mountain range.A number of ridges fan out from beloy its summit. It was exploited  form mining of ridges fun out from below its summit. It was exploited for mining in the 15th-18th centuries. It was Evangelic father Cirbes, who along with his friends made one of the first ascents to Kriváň in 1772.

Dobšiná ice cave

When in 1870 Mr. Rufinny and his friends climbed down the rocky terrain of Stratena and when undeground, he had no idea he was about to find one of the largest ice caves in the world, which is part of a huge underground complex called Stratensky Karst. Dobšinská ice cave belongs among the most important ice caves in the world. Since 2000 it is inscribed on the world heritage list. As compared with known high-mountain ice caves Eisriesenwelt and Dachstein-Rieseneishöhle in Austrian Alps or with the Romanian Scărişoara Cave in Bihor Mts., which has the glaciated part at elevations of 1,100 to 1,120 m n. m., the monumental glaciation of the Dobšinská Ice Cave persist for thousands of years at elevations only 920 to 950 m.

How to prepare for the tour

Vertical distance and temperature differences between outside and inside environment can cause a specific load on organism. It is necessary to take a rest before entering the cave for easier acclimatization. Warmer clothes and firm boots are recommended.

Levoča

The most beautiful architectural component of valuable town of Levoča is without a shadow of a doubt the Town Hall from the 15th century. It used to be the seat Town Council that made decisions here not only on the fate of the town and its inhabitans but also the fate of Levočas surroundings. The original Gothic building was reconstructed in the Renesaince style in the 17th century, followed up a century later with a Baroque style reconstruction of the belfry, which was joined with the rest of the building by a new roof. The most extensive reconstruction took place in 1893-95. The Town of Levoča is dominated by a steep hill witch a neo-ghotic church „Mariánska hora“. It is one of the oldest and most important pilgrimage sites in Slovakia. The chapel on Mariánska hora was built to express gratitude of the people of Spiš for being saved at this place during the Tatar raid in years 1241-1242. Mariánska hora in Levoča is a source of spiritual energy and is visited by thousands of people every year.

Spišský Castle

Is the biggest and most extensive castle in Slovakia and the largest mediaval castle in Central Europe. Spiš Castle is one of a kind medieval royal castle, perched on a travertine-lemestone rock bound cliff. Built close to neighbouring Slavic hill-fort Dreveník, the castle used to be the largest in Central Europe a seat of the illustrious Slovak noble families of Zápoľský and Thurzo. It lies not far from Poprad, the High Tatras and Levoča. Together with Slovak „Vatican“ the religious centre of Spišská Kapitula – they form a historical zone called Spišské Podhradie and are listed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. First mentions of the town Spišská Kapitula in written records date back to 1235. It become the seat of Spiš Propost as early as in the 12th century and has been elevated to the seat of Spiš Diocese since 1776.

Pieniny

Only a bit further behind the High Tatras is the Pieniny mountain range, the first international park in Europe. All visitors will undoubtedly be taken away by the experience of rafting on traditional wooden rafts on the Dunajec River. In its 17 km section between Lysá nad Dunajcom and Lesnica, the Dunajec River lies at the Slovak-Polish border. It is creatby by the confluence of the Biely and Čierny Dunajec Rivers at the foot of northern slopes of the High Tatras. It runs through the village Červený Kláštor and winds through the Three Crowns limestone mossef – the symbol of the Pieniny Mountains. Raftsmen will tell you local tales and legends, one of which is about the flying monk Cyprian, who created artifical wings and became famous for his herbarium.

Nestville park

One of decisive reasons why the idea to build this tourist attraction originated was a significant discovery in the extramural settlement of the castle of Ľubovniansky hrad. The discovery was gradually supplemented with historical documents and artifacts showing that the oldest preserved distillery in Slovakia, built in the middle of the 18th century, was located in Stará Ľubovňa. The distillery is also mentioned in the description of the Ľubovňa castle in the Hungarian geographic dictionary dated from 1851. The base of the old distillery has been lying under the castle until now and apparently it is the oldest preserved object of this kind in the territory of Slovakia. Nestville Park is a gate to knowing one of the most picturesque corners of Slovakia. Our aim is to catch up on the intellectual property and traditions of people from the northern Spiš region and in this way to preserve it for future generations. In addition to learning about the history of the region and its most important events, we would also like to show you exhibitions of historical events which have significantly influenced the production of spirits as well as any related crafts in the northern Spiš region. At the end of the exhibition visitors may see a spirits-tasting room which is a brilliant work of art of local woodcarvers. There is the biggest carved picture in Europe which took 3 years to be made and it forms the heart of the whole exhibition. Visit to the room is accompanied by a small surprise – a special reward – tasting of a unique drink produced by the company.
