Slovak cuisine has an European character with a greater consumption of meat. An essential component of main meals is milk, flour, pulses, potatoes and cabbage.

The most famous and traditional Slovak food is Bryndzové halušky – potato dumplings with sheep cheese which means for Slovaks the same as for  Japanese represents sushi or Italian pizza. Traditional dishes for Slovaks includes dishes prepared from potatoes as Lokša, pancakes, different kinds of sheep cheese, bryndza – prepared from sheep’s milk but also cabbage soup or garlic soup. Traditional desserts are cakes made of the dough as such  as Steamed buns, a bite to wine and beer are popular different kind of pies.

We produce a high quality mineral waters and soft drinks known as Kofola and Vinea which compete to global brands.

Specific Slovak distillate is Borovička which is made from Juniper berries but very popular fruit spirits are Plum Spirits and Pear Spirits… and also Herb liqueurs leaching with gentian root, herbs or berries.

Except spirits a Slovaks like beer, having a high quality comparable to world brands. In certain areas in Slovakia they are grown a quality varietal wines and that wine growing tradition dates back to Roman times.

Slovakia lies in Central Europe, where there are no tropical diseases and do not need any vaccinations. There is a drinking water all over Slovakia.

Experts for travel medicine recommend just basic vaccinations, which should has every traveler regardless of a vacation destination or country.

If you are traveling by plane or using other of public transport, consider vaccination against meningococcal and pneumococcal infections, flu, measles, and varicella. These diseases are transmitted by air and occur worldwide.

Poliomyelitis (polio) does not occur at the Slovakia. But if you come from endemic areas such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nigeria, where you have spent 4 weeks or more you may be asked at the entrance to the Slovak Republic to the desire vaccination certificate with valid vaccinations.

There is recommended to have your home first aid kit and medications, which you regularly use and requires them your health condition.
