The pearl of the Horný Šariš region,the most Gothic city in Slovakia, whose historic centre and Jewish suburb are UNESCO monuments.The main hallmark of Bardejov is the Gothic Church of St. Egidius. The church is situated at the place of erstwhile monastery, built by Cisterian monks from Polish Koprziwnica who settled here around 1206. Hungarian King Béla IV donated extensive estates to Cisterians in the vicinity of Bardejov in 1247. German colonisrs came to the region as early as in the 14th century under the region of King Charles Robert of Anjou, who granted them far-raning privileges in 1320. Roberts son, Louis I the Great, gave permission to Bardejov to hold a fair on St.Egidius Day in 1352.
The Town Hall in Bardejov was built in a Renaissance style in 1505-09 by masters Alexei and Alexander. Master Ján of Prešov was also involved in the completion of the building, and painter Theofil Stanzel decorated the interior and Mathias Grunwald of Bardejov the exterior. The two-story building was used as the Town Councils seat. Difficult to miss is the figure of a small boy that exposes his bare bottom at the former Mayors House. Rumour has it that this show of defiance is due to the town failing to pay the artisans the agreed sum of money for their works.

Was the first European city to obtain its own crest. The city is host to the running of the oldest European marathon. A symbol of Košice is the construction of Gothic Catedral St. Elisabeth, began in the 14th century and was completed in 1508. St.Elisabeth is the easternmost Gothic cathedral in Europe. You will find it on the Main Street at the square formed in the shape of a lens. A main temple of the Košice is Roman Catholic Arcibishopric, the Cathedral has a height of 60 meters, width of 36 meters and northern tower is 59 meters high.
