Piešťany
The town of water, sun and health. The symbol of the world-famous Piešťany is the Crutch-breaker statue. According to archeological findings, during prehistoric times, mammoth-hunters had once settled near the thermal springs.
Piešťany Spa has become a symbol for restoring health to hundreds of people. The long 200- year tradition of running spas is characteristic of Piešťany, with the town being renowned particularly for its medicinal thermal springs and unique sulphuric mud with healing properties. The well-know spa hotel Pro Patria belongs among the oldest buildings on the Spa Island. Piešťany Spa has carved out a name for itself worldwide by virtue of modern methods to treat rheumatics. The local architecture is complemented by splendid spa park, rich local cultural and social life, and options of sports activities and relaxation. The Piešťany Music Festival also has a long running tradition, featuring performances of the best orchestras from Slovakia and abroad.
The Crutch Breaker statue represents Piešťany, and is situated at the top Colonnade Bridge above the Váhs River. This bronze statue was made in 1933 by academic sculptor Róbert Kuhmayer.
