Is the Capital of Slovakia, and with a population of about 450 000 is the larges city. The greater metropolitan area is home to more than 650 000 people. Bratislava is in southwestern Slovakia, occupying both banks of the River Danube and the lest bank of the River Morava. Bordering Austria and Hungary, it is the only national capital that borders two independent countries.
Bratislava is the political, cultural and economic centre of Slovakia. It is the seat of the Slovak president, the parliament and the Slovak Executive. It is home to several universities, museums, theatres, galleries and other important cultural and education institutions. Many of Slovakias large businesses and financial institutions also have headquarters there.
The history of the city has been strongly insluenced by poeple of different nations and religions, namely by Austrians, Croats, Czechs, Germans, Hungarians, Jews and Slovaks. The city was the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary a part of the larger Habsburg monarchy territories, from 1536 to 1783 and has been home to many Slovak, Hungarian and German historical figures.

Devín Castle – is located at the confluence of the Danube and Morava Rivers. The castle territory was already inhabited during the Stone Age. It became an important crossroads, especially for the Romans. The history of the castle is linked to the Gread Moravian Empire and Prince Rastislav.

Skalica is the most unjustly overlooked city in Slovakia.The Town is situated on the foot of the White Carpations near the Morava river, 90 km from the capital Bratislava. Since the year 1996 has been the district town and is considered as natural centre of the Northern Záhorie. The first written mentions of Skalica originate from the years 1217 and 1256. In the documents of that time Skalica is mentioned under the name “Zakolcha”. The Hungarian king Ludovit Ist. awared Skalica privileges of a Free Royal Town on 6.10.1372. Skalica, a historical town, that is wintessed by many cultural monuments. Its spiritual life was influanced by several religions orders. Among the towns valuable landmarks are the Rotunda of St. George, the Franciscan Monastery – producer of the Skalický trdelník /a special rolled pastry/, St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church, Brothers of Mercy Church and Monastery, the Cultural house – art nouveau building, the St. F. Xavier Jesuits Church and crypt. You will find even an ice-cellar room in this pearl of the Záhorie region.

The town of water, sun and health. The symbol of the world-famous Piešťany is the Crutch-breaker statue. According to archeological findings, during prehistoric times, mammoth-hunters had once settled near the thermal springs. Piešťany Spa has become a symbol for restoring health to hundreds of people. The long 200- year tradition of running spas is characteristic of Piešťany, with the town being renowned particularly for its medicinal thermal springs and unique sulphuric mud with healing properties. The well-know spa hotel Pro Patria belongs among the oldest buildings on the Spa Island. Piešťany Spa has carved out a name for itself worldwide by virtue of modern methods to treat rheumatics. The local architecture is complemented by splendid spa park, rich local cultural and social life, and options of sports activities and relaxation. The Piešťany Music Festival also has a long running tradition, featuring performances of the best orchestras from Slovakia and abroad. The Crutch Breaker statue represents Piešťany, and is situated at the top Colonnade Bridge above the Váhs River. This bronze statue was made in 1933 by academic sculptor Róbert Kuhmayer.

Small Slovak Rome – The oldest free royal town in Slavakia and the main religious centre of  Hungary in the past. Trnava has acquired a moniker Slovak Rome due to its dazzling medieval architecture and being choc-a-bloc with churches. An exteaordinary role in present day Slovakia was played by Trnava University as it was at this alma mater that generations of Slovak patriots, writers, intellectuals and scholars received their education.

Nitra is the mother of all Slovak towns. Allegedly founded /like Rome/ on seven hills. It was the centre of the oldest known Slavic polity in present – day Slovakia, the Principality of Nitra in the 9th century – under ruling prince Pribina. In 828, the first Christian church in the whole Central Europe was built at the foot of the Zobor Hill in Nitra. Since the times of then-Archbishop Methodius, Nitra has been the seat of Nitra diocese and a symbol of Slovak spiritual sovereignty.

The historic library of the Appony dynasty is a unique masterpiece and a treasure hidden inside the hotel grounds. The library offers its visitors historical knowledge in unknown quantities every single sheet of those rare documents and precious books, which are carefully hidden inside the library, have the smell of the past centuries.

A stone castle was built in the 13 century as part of the chain of the Kingdom of Hungarian frontier defense castles ranging from Pressburg to Žilina. This castle was completely rebuilt as a fortress in the first half of the 16th century. When the fortress was completed, and it became a representative noble castle. Although the castle was damaged several times by fire, it was always reconstructed by the Pálffy´s, who were the owners of the castle until the Second World War. Today, the castle is a museum.

Small Carpathian Wine Route combines several phenomena – wine, landscape, history and also gastronomy area which lies between Bratislava and Trnava as great centers of southwestern Slovakia. There are Pezinok, Modra and Svätý Jur among them, the three small towns, which carry the honor of free royal towns. This title go in the 17th century, mainly due to its production of wine which tasted sublime and crowned heads of Vienna and Bratislava – that time the capital of Hungary.
