The region is diverse and has been influenced by many cultures. Wroclaw, the capital of Lower Silesia, is bound to amaze you. And so are the other gems of the region which you can visit on half day or day tours from Wroclaw. WALKING TOUR OF WROCLAW

Wroclaw (German: Breslau) is one of the oldest cities in Poland. Thanks to its numerous bridges and footbridges running over the River Oder is sometimes called Venice of the North. The oldest part of the city, Ostrow Tumski, was once a separate island. You will visit the impressive gothic churches, among them the Cathedral of St John the Baptist which is one of the main landmarks of Wroclaw. You can admire a panoramic view of the city from the top of the Cathedral’s tower. Across the Tumski Bridge lies a delightful 13th century Old Town. You cannot miss the impressive edifice of the University of Wroclaw with its magnificent baroque Aula Leopoldina ceremonial hall. Take a stroll to the bustling Market Square surrounded by graceful buildings, restaurants and cafes. This exceptional place is one of the biggest old market squares in Europe. LOWER SILESIA TOUR (The Church of Peace in Swidnica & Ksiaz Castle)

The Church of Peace of the Holy Trinity in Swidnica is without question one of the most interesting religious buildings in Poland. Built in the mid-17th century entirely of wood, the church survived to the present day. Learn the secrets of the intriguing architecture of this impressive theatre-like structure which can accommodate 7500 people. Exceptionality of this place has been recognized and the church has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. A short drive will then take you to the Ksiaz Castle. Standing dramatically on a steep rocky hill, encircled by a gorge, Ksiaz Castle towers majestically over the area. After visiting some of its grand chambers, it is worthwhile to take a stroll down the excellent castle terraces and landscaped gardens where you can admire a magnificent views of the surrounding area. There was also a grim episode in the history of the castle. During the World War II it was intended to be transformed into one of Hitler’s headquarters. Some mysterious underground halls and corridors were built here as it became part of the Project Riese – the biggest mining enterprise of Nazi Germany which led to construction of a complex of tunnels inside the Owl Mountains. A visit to the underground city of Gluszyca-Osowka will give you an idea of the Project Riese truly giant scale.

LAMBINOWICE TOUR

Lambinowice – Lambinovice (German: Lamsdorf) is a small village in south-western Poland. In the 19th century the Prussian military range was established here. During the Prussian-French war it was transformed into camp of detention, known thereafter as Camp Lamsdorf. The camp was reactivated during the World Wars. In the time of World War II Lamsdorf was one of the biggest Nazi prisoner-of-war camps in Europe. At that time, around 300 thousand soldiers, belonging to nearly 50 nations, passed through the gates of the camp, many of whom died. After the end of the World War II the camp continued to operate and this time served as a detention and resettlement camp for German civilians. Nowadays, the Site of National Remembrance at Lambinowice, which is a unique center on the European scale, preserves the memory of all the victims of the prisoner-of-war camp. You will visit the Central Museum of Prisoners of War on the site of the infamous Stalag VIII-B camp where prisoners were interned in tragic conditions. The guide will also take you to other significant places in the surroundings, such as remnants of barracks and camp buildings, cemeteries, memorials.

RIESE COMPLEX TOUR

A complex of mysterious undergrounds from II World War hidden in Owl Mountains makes a stunning impression on every visitor. Project Riese (“Giant”) was a code name for the biggest mining and construction enterprise of Nazi Germany. Between 1943 and 1945 numerous halls and corridors were built inside the mountains and in the Ksiaz Castle undergrounds. To conduct the work on such a large scale prisoners of the concentration camps were assigned to forced labour. Many of them lost their lives there. The work had never been completed, nor the purpose of this extravagant construction has yet been determined. It is assumed that Ksiaz Castle was intended to become one of Hitler’s main headquarters while the tunnels in Owl Mountains were designed for factories of military production or research centre on new types of weapon. According to some, Germans might have stored goods and valuables stolen during the war there. A few kilometers of the tunnels are open for visitors. An hour and a half drive from Wroclaw will take you to the underground city of Gluszyca–Osowka, the longest and the most interesting complex of the ones made available for tourists. Considering low temperature and high humidity inside the object, it is highly recommended to wear warm clothes.
